A Fantastic Experience

by James Vernon almost 8 years ago

The Moon would never be the same again.

Sure, nothing important in its construction had changed. It was still the same old mass of rock hanging on an ever-decaying orbit around the larger mass of rock that we call home. But it was different.

Maybe the giant structure unfolding on its surface had something to do with it.

This mission had taken years to even green-light, never mind anything else. But now, we were here. Standing on the moon, with a base. It wasn't anything special, though. We were heading to Mars with a similar base the next week.

But think about it. It was a momentous occasion when one man took steps on the moon. He wasn't even on the surface for that long. And now look at us, barely a century later. We're sitting on the cusp of exploring the galaxy.

The Earth rose over us, its brilliant blue gaze shining down on us. It was beautiful, this far away. The seas shimmered and the clouds swirled. It was perfect. A man could easily spend his entire life with this view.

And that's what was going to happen. This wasn't just a scientific laboratory, or a spaceport on the way to Mars. It was the first human colony.

Profile

"Hummingbird" James Vernon is a 16 year old A-Level student in England. He likes video games, tabletop games and making fun of things. In this way, he is much like the majority of the internet.

Unfortunately, like the majority of the internet, he isn't good at any of these either. However, he considers himself pretty good at writing.

And also at consistently using the third person. And also at thinking up terrible nicknames for himself.
And also at using the sentence beginning "And also."
