Her voice pierced the steamy hot bathroom as I lay, half submerged, pondering the taps.

I don't reply.

Every morning it's the same. I sit here, enveloped in warm water and steam, my mind completely blank. But always, she invades my mind.

I wouldn't do it if it wasn't for her. I would lay here, topping up the bath with hot water as it grows tepid. Just blank.

Occassionally I think back to my childhood. As the hot water swirls in through the warm I am reminded of something my Mother always said.

- If you put a frog into a pot of boiling water, it will jump out. But if you put it into warm water, then boil it, it won't notice.

I wonder if its the same for humans.

I have a job, of course. Or at least I have a place to sit everyday that isn't my home. But I only do it for her.

If I didn't go she would leave me. I couldn't survive without her.

So I pull myself from the water, gravity pulling down on me as I emerge. I open the bathroom door, cold air pours in, the mists clear.

I'm rady for another day. But only because of her.
