She stared down into the shallow pond from where she stood on the banks, and sighed. There was world just below the broken surface of the water, a world that she longed to understand. The lillypads floating on the surface seemed to hide their world from hers, but she knew better. The world below, it was alive and well. It was something that she could feel, from the tips of her fingers, up her arms and across her heart, and all throughout her entire body.
All she had to do was jump.
Though the pond was only a foot or so deep, to someone who had absolutely no ability to swim, it was the most treacherous environment that she could possibly imagine. She moved her head, watching her shadowy reflection looking back at her in amazement, and she knew she had to at least try. She had to try to see the world just below the smooth glass of the pond.
A grin slid softly across her face as she watched a small fish, a baby fish, quickly cut through the water, bouncing around from leaf to leaf, trying to stay hidden from her. If only she could join them.
If only..
Slowly she stood, her reflection disappearing from the water as she stood perfectly straight. Slowly she began to undress, undoing the buttons of her blouse, unzipping her skirt and letting it all fall away, leaving her there alone with nature. She was going to do it. She was going to see that world in all of its splendor.
Taking and hold a very deep breath, she clasped her hands over her chest, said a silent prayer for her safety, and fell forward, letting the world beneath the surface of the water catch her and keep her forever.
Oh man, this one makes me think. It could be something tragic or the beginning of a beautiful fantasy. Nice.
