Looking out across the fields, Hannah smiled to herself. She had never felt more of a success, than she did right now. She almost wanted to laugh in the faces of the people who had told her she couldn't do it. All the ones who had sneered and ridiculed her dreams. Where were they now? Still back in the City, with their boring lives; working nine 'til five just to pay the bills; stuck in the drudgery of modern living.
Hannah was well free of all of that. Not ever twelve months ago, she had been one of them. High-flying career in law, swanky city centre apartment and wardrobe to match. Her days had been filled to the brim with important meetings, court appearances to keep and cocktails and fancy dinners, before collapsing into bed, too exhausted to sleep.
Now, look at her. Away from the stress of her mobile phone; who needed to be contacted twenty four hours a day? Now, she didn't even have any phone, let alone one which took photographs, sent emails and whatever else it was they did now. The apartment was replaced by an almost derelict barn. No running water, or inside toilet, nevermind a fancy en suite. Dressed casually in a jeans and t-shirt combo, she wouldn't have been seen dead in a year ago, she turned up the volume on her walkman. No ipod, now. Most of her material goods had been sold to pay for her dream cottage. It was her own piece of paradise. A dream.....
Ring, ring, ring. The alarm pierced her thoughts, bringing her back to the moment with a jolt. Damn it, she thought to herself, rubbing her eyes; she had a meeting at 8am.
