"Yes, I know that she murdered someone. A terrible accident, if I do recall."
"An accident? She killed her husband when she was 25 because he was fucking his secretary. Remember."
"I do remember, but she repented and now is attempting to live a peaceful life. Can't she have that?"
"Why do you love them so much? They are disgusting, and I hate being here. The only we reason we had to leave was because you loved them more."
The earth shook for an instant, as the old man moved his king.
"Lucifer, I will not have you speak about them to me in that way."
"Right, because they are your 'chosen children,' while the rest of us simply rot away in the basement now. We are far from Father's eyes, and far from your mind. How can you even stand it here, Earth smells awful."
"I like it. I can smell their hopes and dreams."
"And I can smell their fears and rage."
They sat for a little while, saying nothing. The game progressed and pieces were traded.
"Father, why did we have to meet here."
"Because, it is good for you to simply see that not all of this place is something to hate."
She scoffed at his comment and took his queen. A smile crawled across her face. She had him beat.
"And yet, Lucifer, here you are once again, focused on the game."
