Midnight on the roof. The roof of one of the university buildings, to be exact.
"We've made it," he says. I nod, still woozy from the ascent.
It's dark, but I can make out his features by the light of the moon, and even if it was pitch-black, I would be able to hear the smile in his voice, the pride that comes from deep inside one's chest. When did I start paying this much attention to the way he spoke? It doesn't matter. What matters is that we're here, we've climbed this wall with our own strength and our own bodies and entirely against university regulations. If anyone catches us, I could be sent down, but right now, I don't care. I only care that I'm finally here, with him, alone, in the dark.
"You're amazing," he says. I'm grateful for the dark that hides my blushes. "Thanks," I say, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible. He sits down, then flops straight onto his back, his legs hanging over the edge of the flat roof of the tower.
I can't resist any longer. I sit down next to him and touch his face. He grabs my wrist and starts kissing my fingers and within seconds, my mouth is on his.
"I thought you'd never get it," he smiles.
