"The day after tomorrow, this will all be over." He promised. Jason kissed Anna's hand as he said it and then returned his focus to the road.
"I know." She whispered into the passenger side window, "I just wish it could be over now. I'm so tired, Jason."
"Baby," He didn't break eye contact with road, "It'll all be over soon. And then we can start our life together. Isn't that what you want?"
"Yes." She sighed, "I just didn't want it this way."
"Well, this is the only way it can be." Anna knew he was right and she didn't want to have another argument over it. They had enough arguments for one engagement. She was ready to be married and settle down.
Still, a long road to Vegas didn't seem like the right way to do it. Anna had dreamed about a small church, a white dress, and a room full of loved ones, Jason included. Sneaking off in the middle of the night to get married by Elvis in Vegas wasn't how she envisioned her wedding. But it was too late now.
"How much longer are we going tonight?" She asked Jason.
"Next town. I'm getting sleepy and I don't think you're in any condition to drive. We'll get a full nights sleep and tomorrow we'll be married."
"Yeah." Anna didn't feel the enthusiasm she had back in Alabama about marrying Jason. She hoped it was just due to exhaustion. She didn't think it was.
The day after tomorrow. Then it would be done.
