Leila blinked back tears. Focusing on the skyline and it's twinkling reflection on the water, she took a deep breath. This was such a perfect moment, she almost didn't want to spoil it. James had his arm wrapped around her, the warmth of his body comforting, the sound of his heartbeat steady. The same heart she was about to break.
"There's something I have to tell you." she said, her voice barely more than a whisper.
"Hmm?" He wrapped her hair around his fingers, kissing the top of her head.
"I -" she stopped. She couldn't do this. How could she stand here and tear him apart?
"Yeah?" he tilted her head so she faced him.
"I'm pregnant."
"You're?"
"Pregnant." she repeated.
"Pregnant." His face had turned white, he dropped his arm from her shoulders, stepping back. She had known he would react like this. It was understandable really. No matter how much she had hoped he would hug her and tell her it would all be okay, she never really believed it would happen.
"But-" he rubbed his face.
"I know." she looked down.
"We've never even slept together."
A single tear dripped from the end of her nose.
oh I like this. good surprise.
I liked the tear drop on the nose--I could picture it.
