Daring to be noticed for the first time in her life, she pushed her chair back and stood up.

"Oh, looks like we have ourselves a volunteer?" the D.J at the booth smiled at her.

She blushed when the spotlight hit her. Figures the first time she wanted to be daring, the whole world would see her.

Looking back at her friends as though she wasn't sure of herself anymore, they all encouraged her, their hands moving towards the stage. "Go on!" her friend, Darnell grinned wildly to her. The rest of their group nodded their approval.

Well, if Darnell says to go, what other choice does she have now?

Sighing heavily, realizing she was at the point of no return, she walked up to the small stage that had a small T.V screen and a mike stand. Ah, the joys of karaoke....she loves watching others embarass themselves. Singing, in her opinion should be done in the privacy of her shower, where only the rushing water and showerhead can hear her.

"What's your name, beautiful?" the D.J winked.

"Uh...oh, um...Janice. Yeah, I'm Janice."

"Well, ok, Janice! What are ya singing, baby?"

After Janice made a song selection, she sighed, grateful she picked a slow number. Doesn't take much to sing a slow song, now does it?

Once the generic music started, her friends at their table began hooting for her. Darnell winked at her, giving her a little more encouragement as she looked at the words on the screen.

This should be easy, she thought. Don't pay attention to the crowd. Just sing the words as they light up.

She put so much focus and attention on what she was singing, she didn't realize just how much fun she was having. Didn't notice the crowds reaction. Janice already knew the song by heart, anyway. So, honestly, she didn't need the screen. Janice closed her eyes and sang her nervousness away.

Janice forgot all about the lights, the D.J, the T.V screen. She even forgot her daring move to be noticed for once in her life and just...let go.

Wow.

Who thought you'd have an aha! moment at karaoke?

And when the song was done, there was a thunderous applause.

Janice was so shocked...all she could do was take a bow.
