I think it's number nine. Eight maybe. All I know is my face is slightly tingled.

"Another," she asks as she walks past me.

I give an affirming nod. She has to know I am nearing my limit, but I have learned to play this off well.

"You had the Green Line, right?"

I nod again.

The Cubs are on, and they are losing. Nothing new there.

A couple sits in the corner talking about important couple things.

Two friends sit the right of me, discussing how much their lives and the Cubs suck.

The glass ends up in front...

I fumbled about with my phone, waiting. She was going to be late, but I was always early. Damn nature and nurture. Or is it nurture and nature? What the hell, man. Concentrate.

She went to Northern Illinois. She got a degree in English and is currently working as a barista. God, what a stereotype.

It's ok, get out of your comfort zone.

Ok, I think that's her. Is that her? No, no. The picture of her didn't look like that. I am way too overdressed for this place.

And I hate tea. Why did I get tea? Should I...

I remember sitting there, minding my own business. The wind was a slightly moving napkins about the table. In frustration, I put my glass on the stack to keep it from dancing in the breeze.

As I sitting, waiting for Charles to arrive for our lunch, she walked by.

It was a fleeting moment, to say the least. But my slouched pose suddenly corrected itself. I was no longer concerned with the wind or its affect on napkins.

She was crossing the street, coming toward the cafe. She was wearing a red summer dress, and it being an August evening,...

"What'll it be?"

"Jack."

"Want ice."

"No."

The bartender pours the brown liquid into a tumbler. I wait patiently.

"First time here?"

"No."

I take a swig and end up downing the whole glass. I point down at the empty vessel. He answers my request.

"Funny, I don't remember seeing you come in here before."

The place was a empty. It was late on a Tuesday, understandable why there wasn't a crowd in here. The lights were dim and mahogany colored bar reflected what little light it could find.

"Yeah, it was a couple of months ago."

I point again....

Holy crap, this guy is annoying me again. I mean Jesus Christ, what does he want now?

He always bugs me, hits my head and walks right behind me. It seems no matter where I go, he is there waiting.

Then, when I need him, he can't be found. He disappears for what appears to be hours on end, only to take his pants off and then call for me.

What am I? A servant? I don't fetch things like beer. I don't fold clothes.

Fuck man, I'm cat.

I keep the creases in the clothes nice by laying on...

He was pacing back and forth. His dress pants making a slight swifting noise with every step.

"They should have been here by now," Tom said breathing heavily.

"They will get here when they get here," I replied as I tried to relax on his couch.

We were in his office and we had an important meeting.

It was with a new set of clients who had a nasty reputation. We were suppose to change that for them, however, they were late for the first meeting. A bad sign.

First impressions are everything here. Tom and I rarely discuss anything...

I woke up hung over, my head throbbing. It felt like mini-jackhammers were destroying my frontal lobe, something I am sure the Scotch took care of last night.

The room was unfamiliar, but I had seen it plenty of times laid out in some IKEA or Sears catalog. I was on the bed with an Oak, maybe Maple, night-stand next to it. The room smelled, not good or bad, just different from my bedroom. Clothes covered the floor in front of the closet, where I suddenly saw my pants. A desperate roll to my side brought back the mini-jackhammers.

The...
